It’s the Birthplace of Hippocrates

Kos is proud to be the birthplace of Hippocrates, the "Father of Medicine." Legend says he taught his students under a giant plane tree in Kos Town, which still stands today (albeit with some help from props!). The ancient Asklepion, a medical sanctuary just outside town, is a must-visit for its ruins, views, and sense of history.

The Island Has a Castle by the Sea

The impressive Neratzia Castle guards the entrance to Kos Town’s harbour and dates back to the 15th century. Built by the Knights of St John, it offers fantastic sea views, ancient walls to explore, and a glimpse into the island’s medieval past. It’s history with a breeze and a view.

There’s a Thermal Spa in Nature

Fancy a soak in a natural hot spring? At Therma Beach, just outside Kos Town, warm, mineral-rich waters bubble out into the sea. Locals and visitors alike head here to relax in the natural pool, said to soothe muscles and the mind—plus, it’s all free and fabulously scenic.

Weather

Kos has a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The best time to visit is between May and October, when sunny days and warm waters make it perfect for beach trips, island tours and evening strolls by the harbour.

Spoken Languages and Currency

The official language is Greek, but English is widely spoken, especially in resorts, restaurants, and attractions. The locals are known for their friendliness, and you’ll have no trouble navigating your holiday. The local currency is the Euro (€).
