Beach Bliss on the Albanian Riviera
The southern coastline of Albania is a treasure trove of unspoilt beaches, turquoise waters, and laid-back coastal towns. From the crystal-clear bays of Ksamil to the rugged beauty of Himarë, it’s a Mediterranean escape without the crowds—or the price tag.
Cultural City Breaks with a Twist
Albania’s cities offer an irresistible mix of history, colour, and creativity. Tirana is vibrant and full of surprises, while Berat and Gjirokastër are UNESCO-listed gems with cobbled streets and centuries-old architecture that tell stories of Ottoman empires and communist regimes.
Mountain Adventures and National Parks
For lovers of the great outdoors, Albania is a dream. Hike through the Accursed Mountains, explore alpine valleys, or take a boat trip through Komani Lake. The scenery is jaw-dropping and the trails are blissfully peaceful.
Tucked between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, Albania is a dazzling blend of sun-soaked beaches, dramatic mountains, ancient cities, and warm-hearted hospitality. Still flying under the radar for many travellers, it offers incredible value and a refreshing mix of cultures, cuisines, and adventures. Whether you're a beach bum, history buff, or mountain explorer, Albania is ready to surprise you—in the best possible way.
Bunkers, Bunkers Everywhere
Albania is dotted with over 170,000 concrete bunkers - remnants of the country’s paranoid communist era under Enver Hoxha. These little domes were built to prepare for a foreign invasion that never came. Today, many have been turned into quirky cafes, museums, and even homes, giving visitors a glimpse into the country’s unique past.
A Country of Eagles and Legends
Albania’s name in Albanian is Shqipëria, which means "Land of the Eagles". The double-headed eagle is also featured on the national flag and symbolises strength and freedom. The Albanians are fiercely proud of their heritage and ancient roots, many of which trace back to the Illyrians - warriors of old Europe.
Coffee Culture Like No Other
You might think Italy has a strong coffee culture - but Albania is right up there. In fact, Tirana has one of the highest numbers of coffee shops per capita in the world! Sitting at a café for hours chatting, people-watching, and sipping a rich espresso is practically a national pastime.
Weather
Albania has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Coastal areas are perfect from May to September, when the sea is warm and the beaches are at their best. Spring and autumn (April–June and September–October) are ideal for city breaks, hiking, and cultural explorations - warm days, fewer crowds, and great light for photography. Winters can be cold inland, but rarely extreme.
Spoken Languages and Currency
The official language is Albanian, which has its own unique linguistic roots. However, English is increasingly spoken, especially among younger generations and in tourist-friendly areas. You’ll also hear Italian and Greek in some regions. The local currency is the Albanian Lek (ALL), but some places also accept Euros, especially in tourist hotspots.
