Adventure and Activity Holidays

Fancy kayaking through sea caves, cycling along cliff-top trails or hiking across dramatic landscapes? Jersey’s natural playground is made for exploring. With everything from water sports to wildlife spotting, this island knows how to thrill as well as chill.

Tucked away in the English Channel, Jersey might be small in size but it’s bursting with charm, beauty, and adventure. Think golden beaches, coastal castles, dramatic cliffs, and delicious local produce. With a unique blend of British character and French flair, Jersey is the perfect destination for a refreshing island escape that feels a world away—yet it’s right on your doorstep.

It’s Not Part of the UK (But Kind Of Is!)

Jersey is a Crown Dependency, which means it's self-governing and not part of the United Kingdom—though it’s closely linked. It has its own government, laws, and even its own currency (more on that below!). But don’t worry—no passport needed for UK visitors, and it still drives on the left!

A Hotspot of History and Heritage

From medieval castles to WWII bunkers and hidden tunnels, Jersey’s history is rich and varied. Its position between Britain and France has made it a strategic stronghold for centuries. You can walk through ancient dolmens, explore Victorian fortifications, and visit museums that bring the island’s past vividly to life.

The Tides Are Among the Fastest in the World

Jersey has one of the biggest tidal ranges in the world—with up to 12 metres difference between high and low tide. This creates ever-changing coastal views and reveals a magical world of rockpools, hidden bays, and causeways to explore (just be sure to check the tide times before heading out!).

Weather

Jersey enjoys a mild maritime climate, with warm summers and cool but not-too-chilly winters. The best time to visit is between May and September, when the weather is at its sunniest and ideal for beach days, coastal walks and al fresco dining. Spring is perfect for wildflowers and peaceful sightseeing, while autumn offers crisp air and beautiful sunsets. Even in winter, Jersey’s charm shines through—just pack a cosy jumper and a windproof jacket!

Spoken Languages and Currency

The main language spoken is English, though you may see a few signs and place names in Jèrriais, a traditional Norman-French dialect that’s part of the island’s heritage. Jersey also has its own currency: the Jersey pound, which is pegged to the British pound sterling (£) and accepted interchangeably across the island. British coins and notes are widely used, but Jersey’s own notes make a great souvenir!
